Maree is a warm and empathic counsellor who provides clients with emotion-focused and cognitive skills to help them achieve their therapy and wellness goals. She is working towards being an Internationally Accredited Schema Therapist, and is a skilled DBT and CBT therapist.  Maree initially trained as an occupational therapist and worked predominantly in mental health hospitals and outpatient services in Australia and the UK. She has played key roles in establishing occupational therapy and mental health programs across her career and in 2002 completed her Masters in Health Counselling.

Maree is a Medicare-endorsed Mental Health Occupational Therapist, approved to provide Focussed Psychological Strategies (FPS) under a GP Mental Health Care Plan. FPS accredited allied health therapists can provide:

Maree has extensive experience in mental health therapy provision including:

  • Team Coordination of the Headspace Youth Early Psychosis Program (hYEPP) including clinical supervision, case management, and facilitation of Family Education and Support groups;
  • Operations Manager Mental Health, Dementia & Disability at Southern Cross Care WA Inc., including management and supervision of mental health, dementia and disability teams; development, coordination and delivery of professional development for all staff; and preparation and delivery of professional development to mental health staff;
  • Senior Comorbidity Specialist at Holyoake, including capacity building of clinical staff to manage clients with co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions via education and the provision of resources; providing therapy to clients with severe and complex co-occurring conditions; and building relationships with key Alcohol and Other Drug and mental health services in Holyoake’s catchment areas;
  • Clinical Services Manager at Sentiens Day Hospital, including management and supervision of multipractitioner team, supervision of students, development and management of group and individual therapy programs, service evaluation and quality improvement, representation of day hospital to Sentiens executive and to referring psychiatrists, marketing of day hospital programs to key stakeholders, liaison with inpatient services, community agencies and non-government organisations, and provision of clinical services to patients in a family-inclusive context;
  • Lecturer and Course Coordinator of Curtin University‘s School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work

Prior to joining Fleming Psychology, Maree worked as a group facilitator in the Marian Centre’s DBT group outpatient program and ran group therapy as required within the inpatient program.  We are delighted to have Maree as part of our therapy team!
